What is the cost per device?
Per the MINT grant, these arrays are being distributed at no cost to you. However, typically each array is valued at approximately $200.
What is the difference in the tip treatments?
Laser Cut w/ PEDOT:pTS – Parylene-c coated carbon fibers have their tips re-exposed using a laser. Then PEODT:pTD is electroplated to reduce the size impedance. This treatment is ideal for electrophysiological recordings.
Laser Ablation w/ Plasma Ashing – 50-100μm of the parylene-c coating is removed from the tip of the carbon fibers via laser ablation. The tips are then subjected to a plasma ashing step to remove any residual polymer. This treatment allows for optimal dopaminergic recordings with the potential to do electrophysiological recordings, though the impedance values are not as low as those found with PEDOT:pTS coated fibers
What are the ground and reference wires?
The wires are 50mm long Teflon coated silver wire (AWG 36) with 20mm exposed at the end.
Can these be re-used?
Yes, labs have reused these devices in acute/non-survival preparations.
Can these arrays be used for stimulation?
While PEDOT coated electrodes are often used for stimulation, these arrays have not been evaluated for that purpose.
Can these arrays be sterilized?
Yes, these probes can be sterilized using ethylene oxide. If you do choose to sterilize using ethylene oxide, you can keep them in the original box. We do not recommend using steam sterilization.
